Quran recitation checker: recite, and every word is checked

Minhajy listens while you recite a surah out loud and marks each word as you go — wrong letters, wrong tashkeel, skipped words and extra words — in the Hafs or the Qaloon riwaya. It runs in your browser, with a free weekly allowance.

How it works

  • Choose a surah and your riwaya — Hafs 'an 'Asim or Qaloon 'an Nafi'.
  • Allow the microphone and recite out loud, at your own pace.
  • Each word is marked while you read: correct, or the kind of mistake.
  • At the end you get a word-by-word report of the session, and can replay any attempt.
  • To test your memorisation, hide the text and recite from memory — the checking works the same way.

What it catches

  • Letter-level mistakes — a letter replaced by another.
  • Tashkeel errors — a wrong short vowel.
  • Skipped words.
  • Extra words that are not in the verse.

What it does not do

Minhajy is a practice aid, not a teacher and not an ijazah. Speech recognition can be wrong: it will sometimes mark a correct recitation as a mistake, or miss one. Treat it as a helpful second opinion, and learn with a qualified teacher.

  • It does not grade named tajweed rules (idgham, ikhfa, the length of each madd…). Tajweed is taught in the tajweed course instead.
  • It does not work offline — the listening happens on a server.
  • It publishes no accuracy percentage, because it has not been measured against a public benchmark.

Hafs and Qaloon

Both the mushaf text and the checking follow the riwaya you choose. As of September 2026, the other recitation-checking apps we know of check Hafs only — Minhajy also checks Qaloon, the riwaya recited across Libya, Tunisia and parts of Algeria.

What it costs

Reading, listening, the lessons, quizzes and courses are free forever. Live checking runs on GPU servers, so it has a free allowance: 15 sessions in your first 14 days, then 7 free sessions every week. A paid plan for unlimited checking is coming. No ads; your data is never sold, and your recitation audio is not used for advertising or shared with data brokers.
