ٱلشَّمْس

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا

   ١

   Waalshshamsi waduhaha

   By the sun and its brightness

2. وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا

   ٢

   Waalqamari itha talaha

   And [by] the moon when it follows it

3. وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا

   ٣

   Waalnnahari itha jallaha

   And [by] the day when it displays it

4. وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا

   ٤

   Waallayli itha yaghshaha

   And [by] the night when it covers it

5. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا

   ٥

   Waalssamai wama banaha

   And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

6. وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا

   ٦

   Waalardi wama tahaha

   And [by] the earth and He who spread it

7. وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا

   ٧

   Wanafsin wama sawwaha

   And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

8. فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا

   ٨

   Faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha

   And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness

9. قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

   ٩

   Qad aflaha man zakkaha

   He has succeeded who purifies it

10. وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

    ١٠

    Waqad khaba man dassaha

    And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]

11. كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ

    ١١

    Kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha

    Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression

12. إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا

    ١٢

    Ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha

    When the most wretched of them was sent forth

13. فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَٰهَا

    ١٣

    Faqala lahum rasoolu Allahi naqata Allahi wasuqyaha

    And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink

14. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا

    ١٤

    Fakaththaboohu faAAaqarooha fadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha

    But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]

15. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبَٰهَا

    ١٥

    Wala yakhafu AAuqbaha

    And He does not fear the consequence thereof
