Power
By His power, the non-existent comes into being
Core Claim
By Allah's power, the non-existent comes into being and the existent is brought to non-existence — Allah created both good and evil and acts in His dominion as He wills
Why It Matters
Allah's absolute power means there is no limit to what He can do — this gives the believer confidence that Allah is capable of all things
Lesson
Power (al-Qudra) is the attribute by which the non-existent comes into being and the existent is brought to non-existence. By Allah's power, things are created and annihilated.
Attributes do not 'occur' or 'arise' in Allah — because that which changes is created. Allah's attributes are eternal, without beginning or end, and do not change. If His attributes changed, that change would be a sign of createdness, and Allah is not created.
Allah created both good and evil — He acts in His dominion as He wills. He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned. The creation of evil does not mean Allah approves of it — it means everything in existence is created by Allah's power and will.
Allah said: 'Indeed, Allah is over all things competent' (al-Baqarah 2:20) — meaning Allah's power encompasses everything; nothing in the earth or heavens is beyond His ability.
