Life

Allah's life is eternal — not like ours

Core Claim

Allah's life is eternal and unchanging — it is not the union of body with soul, flesh, and blood

Why It Matters

Understanding Allah's life protects from anthropomorphism — His life is not like our compound life of body and soul

Lesson

Life (al-Ḥayāt) — Allah's life is eternal — without change. It is not the joining of body with soul, flesh, and blood.

Our life is the joining of body and soul — when the soul leaves the body, the person dies. Allah's life is not like that — Allah is the Living, without body, soul, flesh, or blood.

Allah's life is an eternal attribute subsisting in His essence — it depends on nothing else and does not change.

Important note: The soul does not die. Allah willed permanence for four things: Paradise, the Fire, souls, and part of the Throne. The soul's final abode will be either Paradise or Hellfire.

Allah is al-Hayy (the Living) — one of His beautiful names indicating the eternal attribute of life that does not resemble the life of creation.
